How to get rid of cavities
What are cavities?
Cavities (dental) are holes that are found on the surface of the teeth in the mouth. Some may be very tiny and somebbig depending on the intensity of the cavity.
Causes of cavities
- The primary cause of cavities is a bacteria that acts on leftover foods on the surface of the teeth causing the wearing off the teeth. Research discovered that the bacteria is streptococcus mutans. What the bacteria does is to form a non-transparent layer of film on the teeth known as plaque. The plaque contains acid that acts on the outer layer of the teeth (enamel) causing it to wear off therefore causing holes in the teeth.
- Lack of vitamin D: Not a haviyh required amount of vitamin D in one's diet makes the teeth more vulnerable to cavities.
- Taking foods that sticks to the teeth like candy and most chocolates.
- Reduced volume of saliva in the mouth can result to dry mouth which is caused by medical issues can be a cause of cavity.
- Dieting on sugary foods is also not encouraging because leftover sugars on the surface of the teeth will cause wearing off when the bacteria acts on it.
- Eating during bedtime may cause dental cavities as a result of leftovers from food in the mouth before going to bed
How to prevent cavities
- Taking enough vitamin D supplement: vitamin D acts as a reagent in absorbing calcium from foods. Calcium will help fill in those holes (cavity) and make the teeth stronger and less susceptible to bacteria attack. Sources of vitamin D are diary products like milk and yoghurt. A natural source is the early morning sun.
- Chewing sugar free gum: There are now sugar free gums that can be taken to help strengthen the teeth against cavities. These are better than the sugar infested ones that causes the wearing off of the teeth.
- Reduce sugary foods: Sugary foods won't do any good thing to the teeth as it will only cause damage to it. So many research have found out and confirmed that taking too much sugary foods are risk factors of cavity, hence, the need to reduce it.
- Licorice root: Extracts from Chinese licorice plants helps fight against the bacteria that causes cavities in the teeth.
- Mouth wash: Regular usage of mouth wash also helps prevent mouth cavities because it has antibacteria properties that helps prevent the bacterial growth.
- Flossing of mouth like mostly twice or thrice a day also helps.
- Brushing with fluoride toothpaste: Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is an essential tool in fighting cavities and strengthening the enamel. So many research have prove it that timely and regular brushing of the teeth with fluoride toothpaste helps prevent cavities.
